Long Live the King of Monsters! (playtest)
A downloadable playtest
The King of Monster Island is dead!
It's time to choose Monster Island's new king... in free-for-all combat!
Long live the King of Monsters!
In this game you and your friends create monsters with random traits and powers, and then your monsters fight for dominion over Monster Island.
During this epic conflict, your attacks disrupt each others’ abilities until the last monster standing is King of Monsters!
But missing your foe can be even more destructive than hitting them! When your attack fails to land on a monster, you instead devastate part of Monster Island itself.
Be careful--if your combat is too earth-shaking, Monster Island may sink into the sea entirely before a king is crowned.
This is an early-days playtest for LLKM. I’ve got some ambitious ideas for this concept, including a significant change to the theming and maybe even making it a card game. But first I want to be sure I’ve got a solid foundation, and that’s where you come in!
You will need:
- at least three people (more is better! I’d love to see how many the game can accommodate and where it eventually breaks down)
- five ordinary six-sided dice
- pencils and erasers for everybody
- tokens, like coins or poker chips, one for each person
- one printed copy of the MONSTER ISLAND LANDMARKS sheet
- one printed copy per person of the MONSTER MAKER sheet
- the two-sided info sheet (it has the rules!)
- 20 or 30 minutes (playtime depends on number of players and luck of the dice)
